Beginner Class Information

2025 Beginner Class Syllabus for Saturday

This year there will be two classes.  A Tuesday Evening Class and a Saturday Class will be held to accommodate busy schedules.  Pick the class that works best for you.  Registration includes the class, one comprehensive reference book, and one year membership in the Medina County Beekeepers Association. 


Saturday Classes


If the registration is closed, you can walk in and register at the class.

Saturday Session - Day 1   February 8,  10 am - 5:00 pm

  • Introduction to Beekeeping 
  • Beekeeping History in Medina 
  • Honey Bee Biology 
  • Types of Bees 
  • Where to get bees 
  • Colony Location, Zoning 
  • Being a Good Neighbor 
  • Equipment - Boxes, Frames, Assembling, Tools, Smokers 
  • Package Bee Installation
  • Inspecting your Hive 


Saturday Session - Day 2   February 15,  10 am - 5:00 pm 

  • What your Bees will Eat (Ohio Forage) 
  • Pests, Diseases, and Critters
  • Nosema and American Foulbrood
  • Varroa Destructor 
  • Control Options/Treatments
  • Marketing, Labels. and Hive product
  • Winterizing your Hive
  • Harvesting and Extracting Honey
  • Mentor Availability
  • Q&A
